The Inner Child is Childlike Not Childish

July 22, 2025 by Rogier 5 Comments

Anon:
I am confused by the way some members of our Lightfamily use the supposed expression of the inner child as an excuse for some very childish behavior that is more in keeping with that of a distressed teenager. Can you clarify what age group the inner child represents when it’s expressing? It feels to me as though those excusing their adolescent behavior as being their inner child expressing, is using the inner child as an excuse for some very dysfunctional and undeveloped behavior.

The Seer:
I absolutely agree with you. To prevent individuals from calling their dysfunctional behavior that of the “Inner Child”, an explanation is a good idea. (We’ve had a similar situation occur when some excuse their immoral or undisciplined behavior as an expression of the Wild Woman sub-personality, but let us focus on clarifying the inner child.)

  • The Inner Child is five years old; not a distressed and rebellious teenager with silly obsessions, but rather an innocent and spontaneous playful personality,
  • A very important point to remember is that there is a difference between childlike and childish. The Inner Child is childlike (childlike expression mirrors the virtues of a child), it is not childish. Childish expression mirrors the vices of a child — silliness, demanding attention, manipulative and self-centeredness; disrespectful and socially inappropriate.

Yes! The inner child is not a petty tyrant, it’s innocent and sweet. 💜 The dysfunctional behaviours don’t belong to us.

Thank you for this! I have said there is a difference. For me my inner child delights in creating digital art and music. The second chakra is also activated more through expressing, which as a child for many was stifled. 🙏💖

An example of my inner child’s expression is the colourful clothing I wear. 🥰😍☺️

Thank you for distinguishing between Childlike and Childish. Having teenagers at home, I appreciate this important distinction!
