Harsat – The Nature of Finding Ourselves in Others.
It is for this reason, that man has been on an eternal quest. He has sought himself in the eyes of the sage; he has sought to reproduce himself through his children; he has sought to find his better half, his other half, through his companions, his wife, or her husband. Whatever partners we have chosen, they have come from this desire: the desire of finding ourselves in others.
During courtship, the first part of being in love, that which attracts us, is to find similarities of ourselves in another. If we are ambitious, we wish to have a partner that is ambitious. If we are laidback, we want a partner that is laidback.
We also seek that which we lack, in others. Self-nurturing — we tend to seek others to do that for us, if it is lacking within. If our inner child is suppressed, we often seek an inner child in another, feeling complete when we are with them. It is due to this particular matrix that there is such devastation when there is a parting of the ways of partners.
