When we are bound by sentimental attachments, or reach for the past because of a misplaced sense of duty that we should drag that which has served its purpose with us, we miss the wave of opportunity to move ahead with our own purpose of existence. If the apple tree clings to its leaves rather than shed them in the autumn, there will be no blossoms in the spring, nor apples in the summer to create the seedlings for the next year.
